Dragonflight --©1968 by Anne McCaffrey Founded by dragonriders of Fort after that Weyr became overpopulated, High Reaches became the third Weyr on Pern. High Reaches is one of the most striking of all the Weyrs. The northern rim of the Bowl is called the Seven Spindles for the high, crownlike points arrayed around that end, formed of old flow from the volcano and clipped to sharp spikes when the caldera blew up in ages past. The Weyr is housed in a westerly part of the High Reaches Ranges, where the marine influence under some conditions makes its climate slightly warmer than that of Fort Weyr.
